A woman is suing her psychologist over claims she suffered psychological and mental impairment after inadequate treatment.

Miriam Wolfe filed a lawsuit March 11 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Virginia Walsh citing negligence.

According to the suit, Wolfe was Walsh's patient for mental health care from summer 2003 to summer 2007, during which time Wolfe claims Walsh should have better treated her issues with transference and counter-transference. According to the lawsuit, Walsh also failed to consult others more knowledgeable about the subject and even forbade Wolfe "from applying for advanced training at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis."

As a result, the lawsuit states, Wolfe "suffered severe and permanent impairment of her psychological and mental condition, including but not limited to becoming confused, anxious and depressed; her physical condition deteriorated resulting in numerous hospitalizations for somatic conditions; and she has suffered severe pain and suffering, emotional distress and loss of a normal life."

Wolfe is seeking damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by Charles Cole of Schuyler, Roche and Crisham of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 15-L-2492.
