A woman has filed a class action lawsuit against United Insurance Company of America and its subsidiary, Kemper Corporation, for alleged breach of contract.

A state appeals panel has sided with several insurance companies facing class action complaints from a Chicago-based medical practice specializing in treating neck and back injuries as part of worker compensation claims, saying the clinic has no right under the law to demand insurers pay interest on slow-arriving reimbursements.

Two groups of investors, collectively numbering 56, who all said they were victims of an abusive tax avoidance scheme masterminded by former Seyfarth Shaw LLP partner John Rogers, have sued a western Pennsylvania-based law firm for allegedly waiting too long to bring their court actions against Rogers and Seyfarth, and making other unforced errors which they said cost them the chance to win settlements or court awarded damages.

The former president and CEO of Chicago-based GoPicnic Brands, which specializes in the production of “healthy” and portable shelf-stable prepackaged meals, has sued Synergy Law Group, a Chicago law firm she said gave her bum legal advice and then partnered with venture capitalists to oust her from leadership of the company she helped found, allegedly costing her millions of dollars. On Dec. 31, Julia Stamberger filed a legal malpractice complaint in Cook County Circuit Court against Synergy.
