A Cook County resident filed suit against a well-known housewares retailer on grounds of alleged negligence in a 2013 incident.

Robert Snyder brought suit May 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., claiming premises liability in a May 2013 injury.

The suit states that the plaintiff was shopping on the defendant’s premises located at 3340 Shoppers Drive in McHenry on or about May 29, 2013, and that he tripped and fell over a ladder left with its base hidden from view but with legs extending into an interior walkway or aisle.

Snyder alleges that the defendant knew or should have known of the hazard. The complaint cites the defendant for breach of care; failing to locate the ladder safely; warn shoppers of its placement; keep walkways clear for traffic; and supervise and/or properly train employees, staff, or agents of the store.

The plaintiff’s injuries were unspecified. Citing one count each of negligence and premises liability, the plaintiff seeks compensation in excess of $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. He is represented in the case by Robert Duncan and Katherine Ross of Duncan Law Group in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L0005319.
