A pipefitter and his wife are suing dozens of manufacturers involved with asbestos, alleging they caused his asbestos-related illness.

Robert and Pamela Kindernay filed a lawsuit June 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against dozens of companies, alleging premises liability .

The lawsuit states Robert Kindernay worked as a pipefitter at various locations from 1960 to 2002. During this time, the lawsuit states, he "was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed asbestos fibers emanating from certain products he was working with and around that were manufactured, sold, distributed, marketed or installed by the defendants."

As a result, the lawsuit states, Kindernay became aware, on Oct. 22, 2014, he was suffering from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma.

The Kindernays seek damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional minimum limit, plus costs. They are represented by attorney Charles A. Porretta, of Cooney and Conway, in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case no. 2015L005598.
