A patient and his wife are suing doctors and medical practices after he allegedly suffering colorectal damage as a result of delayed treatment.
Christopher and Stephanie Kruger filed a lawsuit June 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against: Dr. James Martin Arons; Dr. Dzifaa Kofi Lotsu; Dr. Michael David Smith; Park West Family Physicians; Fox Glen Gastroenterology, doing business as Illinois Center for Digestive and Liver Health Chicago; and Galilee Medical Center, doing business as MRI Lincoln Imaging Center, alleging delayed diagnosis and treatment.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 13, 2013, Christopher Kruger went to Arons complaining of stomach pain and cramping with constipation for three weeks. A CT scan showed a distal large bower obstruction, the lawsuit states, but a colonoscopy wasn't ordered until the following January.
On Dec. 13, 2013, the lawsuit states, Kruger went to the emergency room at Evanston Hospital complaining of intolerable abdominal pain. The suit says he was diagnosed with having a perforated colon, for which he underwent an exploratory laparotomy, sigmoid colon resection and loop transverse colostomy on the same day.
As a result of the delayed diagnosis and treatment, the lawsuit states, Kruger suffered prolonged injuries, pain and suffering and medical expenses.
The Krugers seek damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limits and court costs. They are represented by attorney Elizabeth A. Kaveny of Burke, Wise, Morrissey & Kaveny in Chicago.
