Disabled woman blames broken hip on nursing home

A disabled woman is suing a nursing home, alleging a fall at the facility broke her hip.

John Mensing, representing the disabled Sharon Mensing, filed a lawsuit June 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Trilogy Healthcare of Will, doing business as St. James Manor and Villa, Manor Care of Homewood, doing business as Manorcare Health Services-Homewood, and Manorcare Health Services, doing business as HCR Manorcare Health Services.

According to the complaint, from June 8-25, 2013, Sharon Mensing was a resident of St. James Manor and Villa, 1251 E. Richton Road, Crete, and though the defendant was notified supervision was needed to prevent her from falling, the plaintiff suffered a fall June 25. As a result, the lawsuit states, she suffered a fracture of her left hip requiring surgery, a subsequent left hip dislocation requiring more surgery, and the development of pressure sores on her coccyx, left heel and right buttocks.

The plaintiff alleges pain and suffering, medical expenses, disability and disfigurement, and physical and emotional trauma.

Sharon Messing seeks damages in excess of $200,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorneys Cari Silverman and Ashley Herschberger of Levin and Perconti of Chicago.
