Patient alleges faulty hip replacement

A patient is suing a doctor and his practice, alleging a botched hip replacement procedure.

Ronald Sefcik filed a complaint June 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Brett Levine and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, alleging malpractice.

According to the complaint, on June 20, 2013, Sefcik underwent arthroplastic surgery by Levine to place a hip implant, and Levine placed the implant at an improper angle, causing hip instability, as well as failing to treat the unstable implant and then performing an incomplete revision procedure to correct the issue Aug. 5, 2013.

As a result, the suit says, Sefcik suffered dislocation and subluxation of his hip several times, requiring revision surgery. In addition to these injuries, the complaint states, the plaintiff also experienced pain and suffering, loss of normal life and medical expenses.

Sefcik seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit. He is represented by attorney John A. Salzeider of O'Connor and Nakos in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006270.
