A bicyclist is suing the driver of a vehicle who allegedly collided with him in a bicycle lane in Buffalo Grove.

Boris Varshavskiy filed a complaint June 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Chang Y. Shin.

According to the lawsuit, at 5:25 p.m. June 18, 2013, Varshavskiy was riding his bicycle south on the west sidewalk along Arlington Heights Road, riding through the north exit drive apron of an Aldi store parking lot at the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove. At the same time, the lawsuit states, Shin was driving east and turned left onto Arlington Heights Road, heading north, at which point he allegedly struck Varshavskiy.

Shin faces allegations of negligence and carelessness for failing to yield to a bike, entering the roadway without yielding, exercise due caution, look for bicyclists and keep a proper lookout.

As a result, the lawsuit states, Varshavskiy suffered injuries, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. Varshavskiy is represented by Andrew J. Long, of the Law Offices of Alexander Gruzmark Ltd. in Glenview.
