Nursing home named in wrongful death lawsuit

Michael eisenberg

A woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, claiming its negligence led to a death.

Helen Fells, as special administrator of the Estate of Essie Davis, filed suit Dec. 4 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Southport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

According to the complaint, Southport, at 1010 W. 95th St. in Chicago, knew Davis was at risk for developing ulcers and falling when she was admitted.

Fells, however, claims Davis developed stage three and stage four pressure ulcers and fell, both of which contributed to Davis' deteriorating health and eventual death. Her suit alleges wrongful death and negligence under Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented by attorney Michael J. Eisenberg.
