A couple is suing over claims a man sustained injuries when an engine crane failed to work properly while he was working on it.
Jesus Olivio and Gloria Olivio filed a lawsuit Oct. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Cornwell Quality Tools Co., Shinn Fu Company of America Inc. and Chris's Tools Inc., citing strict product liability, negligence and loss of consortium.
The complaint states that on June 8, the defendants were engaged in the business of designing, manufacturing and selling a product marketed as a foldable engine crane, Model HEW4000EC, with a two-ton capacity for use in automotive repair.
Prior to June 8, the suit states, Chris's Tools Inc. purchased the product from Cornwell and sold it to Jesus Olivio for use at a Mobile Gas Station at 4443 S. Ashland Ave. in Chicago.
Jesus Olivio asserts that on June 8, he was using the product for its intended purpose of hoisting engines when the product failed, dropping the engine from the mechanism holding it up.
The Olivios are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs of the lawsuit. They are being represented in the case by attorneys at Corti, Aleksy and Castaneda.
