Northshore University Healthsystem is facing a lawsuit after allegedly committing medical malpractice.

Larry Opiola, as special administrator of the Estate of Gloria Opiola, filed a medical malpractice suit Aug. 20, in the Cook County Circuit Court against Northshore University Healthsystem and Northshore University Healthsystem Faculty Practice Associates.

The complaint states that from Aug. 8, 2011, through Aug. 20, 2011, Gloria was a patient at the defendants' Skokie Hospital.

Opiola contends the defendants failed to properly monitor Gloria, failed to adequately inform her physicians of findings involving her right lower extremity, failed to examine and inspect her in a timely and appropriate manner, failed to follow physicians' orders and failed to appropriately manage medications.

As a result of the defendants' actions, Opiola claims that Gloria suffered serious and permanent injuries and died on Aug. 20, 2011.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney John J. Maclnemey of Hofeld and Schaffner.
