UPDATE: Cook County court records indicate this case was dismissed under a settlement agreement on Oct. 14, 2015.

Loyola University Medical Center is facing suit over claims it provided inadequate medical care.

Nancy Knoerr, as independent administrator of the Estate of Adam Knoerr, filed a lawsuit Nov. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Loyola University Medical Center, citing the state's survival and wrongful death acts.

According to the complaint, Adam arrived at the Loyola University Medical Center's emergency room on July 27, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a scooter accident.

Knoerr claims the defendant negligently and prematurely discharged Adam on July 31, 2012, failed to re-admit him on Aug. 2, 2012 after he developed symptoms, failed to thoroughly asses Adam's vital signs, perform a CT scan, assess him for possible infection, timely perform a craniotomy and maintain sterile technique in the operating room during a surgery on July 27, 2012.

The plaintiff claims that as a result of the defendant's negligence, Adam died on Aug. 28, 2012 of multi-organ system failure.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by Jon C. Papin and Patti L. Tuttle of Cogan & Power P.C.
