Two East Oak Condominium Association filed suit Nov. 13 in the Cook County Circuit Court against The Basic Source over lights it claims were defective.
According to the suit, Two East undertook a renovation project in 2009 that required the installation of new lights. It claims it hired a contractor who bought the lights from The Basic Source and installed them.
Two East contends that shortly after the lights were installed, they started to malfunction and did not fulfill their intended purpose. The suit states that in 2009, The Basic Source claimed to have identified and fixed the problem with the lights and gave Two East a written three-year warranty.
The plaintiff, however, alleges that the lights malfunctioned again in 2011. When it sought to exercise its rights under the warranty, Two East claims The Basic Source refused to honor the warranty and denied the plaintiff a refund.
Two East is seeking $35,722.50 in damages, the alleged cost of the lighting, and is being represented by Chicago attorney Michael C. Kim.
