Alexian Brothers Medical Center is facing suit over claims it provided inadequate medical care.

Virginia and Casimiro Altiveros filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Nov. 12 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Bhupesh Dhananjayan, Inpatient Consultants of Illinois P.C. and Alexian Brothers Medical Center.

According to the complaint, Virginia arrived at the emergency department of Alexian Brothers Medical Center on Sept. 20, 2012 and went under the care of Dhananjayan.

The plaintiffs claim Virginia had complaints of neck and upper back pain and numbness and that Dhananjayan ordered and then cancelled a request for an MRI. Three days later, Virginia developed progressive quadraparesis and became a quadriplegic, the suit states.

They claim the defendants were negligent for failing to order appropriate tests or studies and failing to timely diagnose.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and are being represented in the case by Power Rogers & Smith P.C.
