Manorcare of South Holland sued for alleged violations of Nursing Home Care Act

A local medical center is facing suit over claims it violated the Nursing Home Care Act.

Joyce Togtman, as special administrator of the Estate of Augusta Hodges, filed a lawsuit Nov. 20 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Manor Care Of South Holland IL LLC, doing business as Manorcare of South Holland, citing violations of the state's nursing home care, survival and wrongful death acts.

According to the complaint, Hodges was admitted to Manorcare of South Holland on Feb. 2, 2012. Togtman claims the defendant failed to properly care for Hodges she was a resident, resulting in her developing pressure ulcers, becoming malnourished and dehydrated.

She alleges the defendant's actions caused or contributed to Hodges' death.

Togtman is seeking more than the $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Kelly A. Sabo.
