Former client sues the lawyers he retained to litigate his divorce

Essam A. Ammar filed suit in the Cook County Circuit Court on Jan. 10, naming his former lawyers, Schiller, Du Canto and Fleck LLP as the defendants.

Ammar is suing his former lawyers due to the way they handled his divorce case. In his complaint, Ammar says he had numerous premarital assets including an IRA and a condominium, the value of which he should have gotten exclusive control of. However, Ammar claims his attorney's were not able to get him assets to which he was entitled under Illinois's divorce laws.

Ammar accuses his lawyers of purposefully dragging on his divorce proceedings so they could continue to bill him for their time and claims the case has been mismanaged and costly, resulting in financial and emotional damage.

Ammar is representing himself and is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
