Skokie Hospital, nurses sued for medical malpractice

NorthShore University HealthSystem is facing suit after allegedly committing medical malpractice.

Richard J. Wiltgen filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Jan. 21 in the Cook County Circuit Court against NorthShore University HealthSystem, doing business as Skokie Hospital, and registered nurses Mary Grana, Jyoti Patel and Larisa Bard.

The complaint states on Jan. 25, 2012, Wiltgen was admitted to Skokie Hospital for an epidural injection. According to the complaint, while the plaintiff was in the post anesthesia care unit, he complained of numbness and tingling in his left lower extremity and then fell to the floor, sustaining injury.

Wiltgen claims the defendants committed negligent acts, including, failing to perform a fall risk assessment, failing to appreciate the instability of his condition, failing to initiate strict nursing supervision and failing to adequately maintain the his hospital chart.

The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Bradley M. Cosgrove and Sarah F. King of Clifford Law Offices P.C.
