A woman is suing Chicago's transit authority after falling on a bus.

Rosa Escamilla filed a lawsuit Jan. 14 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Escamilla sustained injuries on Nov. 28, 2007, when she was a passenger aboard a CTA bus traveling southbound on Racine Avenue, south of the Taylor Street intersection.

Escamilla claims she attempting to sit down when the bus abruptly pulled away from its stop, causing her to fall. She accuses the CTA of negligently operating the vehicle, proceeding at a speed that was greater than reasonable, driving the vehicle in an unsafe condition, and failing to warn and equip the bus with handrails.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Timothy Rhatigan of Rhatigan Law Offices LLC.
