Manor Care of Oak Lawn named in negligence claim

The guardian of a nursing home resident is suing physicians and the facility over alleged surgery complications.

Melvin Jeter, as guardian of Queen Jeter-Davis, filed a lawsuit March 5 in the Cook County District Court against Manor Care of Oak Lawn Illinois LLC, doing business as Manorcare of Oak Lawn East, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Jeter-Davis was admitted to the defendant's nursing home at 9401 S. Kostner Ave. in Oak Lawn on Oct. 23, 2012, when she allegedly received negligent care that resulted in injuries.

According to the suit, Jeter-Davis was at high risk for falls and the defendant failed to monitor her properly, resulting in her falling numerous times and injuring herself, specifically sustaining injuries to her brain.

Jeter is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, attorney's fees and court costs. The plaintiff is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Michael J. Eisenberg of Law Offices of Steven J. Malman and Associates P.C.
