A woman is suing a manufacturer over claims a faulty pain pump injured her during 2004 shoulder surgery.

Christina Johnson filed a lawsuit March 26 in the Cook County Circuit Court against I-Flow Corp., citing product liability.

According to the complaint, Johnson's orthopedic surgeon informed her on July 1, 2012 that she had suffered an injury from the ON-Q pain pump, which was manufactured by I-Flow and used in her 2004 shoulder operation.

The lawsuit states studies as early as 2003 reported health risks associated with the pump and the FDA denied an application to sell the pump for implantation into a shoulder joint.

Johnson is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Jeffrey J. Talis of Faklis & Tallis P.C.
