The manufacturer and seller of a hip replacement implant are being sued over claims product caused a Cook County man to have two hip replacement surgeries.

Christopher Buday filed a lawsuit April 14 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Depuy Orthopaedics Inc. and Premier Orthopaedic Sales Inc., citing strict product liability, negligence and breach of implied warranty of fitness.

According to the suit, the defendants manufactured and sold a metal-on-metal hip replacement system. Buday claims he began medical treatment for degenerative joint disease of his left hip, and underwent a hip replacement surgery on Feb. 3, 2009.

He alleges he suffered complications after the surgery, resulting in the removal and replacement of the product on March 4.

Buday is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional limits and court costs and is being represented by Barrington attorney Raymond M. Rudnick of Carponelli & Krug.
