An insurance company is suing after a restaurant fire spread to neighboring businesses.

Society Insurance Co., as subrogee of American Gourmet Specialties Ltd., doing business as Sopranos, and Gemini International Inc., filed a lawsuit April 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Mad River Illinois LLC and Automatic Icemakers LLC, citing property damage.

According to the complaint, Automatic Ice was attempting to repair or replace an ice machine at Mad River Bar & Grille on North Sheffield in Chicago on July 9, 2010, when employees of the restaurant tried to disconnect power and a fire broke out.

Gemini International, the owner of the real estate, and nearby Sopranos, allege their property was damaged as a result of the fire. The insurance company accuses Mad River and Automatic Icemakers of negligence and is seeking more than $50,000.

It is being represented by Chicago attorney Joshua J. Whiteside with Grotefeld Hoffmann LLP.
