Tenant smacks landlords with bed bug lawsuit

Crane

A Chicago woman is suing over claims she had to be hospitalized seven times due to a bed bug infestation that her landlords failed to rectify.

Paula Cohen filed a lawsuit April 29 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Plan Management Company LLC, Sheridan Property Holdings LLC, Marko and Marija Knezovic and Marina and Zoran Planinic, citing premises liability.

According to the complaint, Cohen discovered bed bugs in her apartment on May 4, 2012. After notifying Plan Management Company, Cohen allege that an exterminator was hired to spray the apartment twice, but only one treatment was performed due to non-payment.

Cohen claims the city recognized the bed bug infestation and has been hospitalized seven times for injuries sustained from the bed bugs.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Ben Crane of Coplan & Crane Ltd.
