LaGrange Park nursing home hit with wrongful death suit over choking

Sq the grove 2

The family of a woman is suing a Cook County nursing home over claims she died shortly after choking on food the staff gave her even though it was outside her prescribed diet.

Christine Meagher and William Larides, as independent co-administrators of the Estate of Patricia Messina, filed a lawsuit April 28 in the Cook County Circuit Court against The Grove of LaGrange Park LLC, citing wrongful death.

According to the suit, Messina was a resident of The Grove of LaGrange Park on July 15, when she choked on food not part of the soft diet she required, and died five days later.

The plaintiffs claim the defendant failed to adequately treat Messina, follow dietary regulations for her medical condition and respond to the choking in a timely manner.

They are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented in the case by attorney Eugene Hardiman.
