A man is suing a manufacturer and a retail giant, claiming he was injured by a defective piece of exercise equipment.

Anthony Poli filed a lawsuit May 9 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dalps & Leisure Products Supply Corp. and Dick's Sporting Goods Inc., citing product liability.

According to the complaint, Poli bought a Fitness Gear 25 Pound Resistance Tube from Dick's Sporting Goods in Lombard on Jan. 27, 2012. When he was using the product, which was manufactured by Dalps, on May 15, 2012, he claims the weighted part of the product broke through a door and struck Poli in the eye, causing severe injury.

Poli is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits and is being represented in the case by attorney Caroleann Gallagher of Ridge & Downes.
