The insurance company of a Schaumburg condo association is suing a former resident over property damages it claims were caused by a fire at the complex.

QBE Insurance Corp., as subrogee of Lexington Green Condominium Association, filed a lawsuit May 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Aleck Mooses.

According to the suit, a fire started in the fireplace and flue pipe of Mooses' condo at the Maple Court complex in Schaumburg on Dec. 11, when it spread and caused extensive damage.

The insurance company alleges the fire was the result of Mooses' negligent installation of a fireplace.

QBE is seeking the more than $100,000 in payments it made to the condo association. It is being represented in the case by attorneys at Nelson Levine de Luca & Hamilton and John R. Schleiter of Grotefeld, Hoffmann, Schleiter, Gordon, Ochoa & Evinger LLP.
