Couple lodges premises liability claim against Merchandise Mart, others over alleged fall at bridal expo

A Cook County couple is suing over claims the man was injured while setting up a bridal expo at the Merchandise Mart Plaza.

Stephen and Karen Fishback filed a lawsuit June 2 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Vornado Realty Trust, Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., Merchandise Mart Owners LLC, Merchandise Mart LLC and National Bridal Show Chicago MMPI, citing premises liability and negligence.

According to the complaint, Stephen Fishback was helping set up for a bridal expo at West Merchandise Mart Plaza in Chicago on April 6, 2013, when he fell down a ladder after someone placed a chair at the bottom of it.

The Fishbacks are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented in the case by attorney David Gilbreth of Costello, McMahon, Burke & Murphy Ltd.
