Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., others face asbestos suit over man's mesothelioma

A man is suing dozens of companies, claiming he developed mesothelioma from asbestos exposure.

Mark Spence filed a lawsuit June 16 in the Cook County Circuit Court against The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., Monsanto Co.and others companies.

According to the complaint, Spence was exposed to asbestos in products designed, manufactured, sold and marketed by the defendant companies in his various occupations as a tradesmen laborer, lawn care specialist and home remodeler between 1968 and 1990.

Spence claims he was diagnosed with mesothelioma on Oct. 4 and accuses the defendants of failing to warn customers of the danger and concealing results of safety tests.

He is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional limits, plus costs, and is being represented in the case by attorney Michael T. Egan of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
