An Evanston medical practice and a doctor are facing a suit from a man who claims they misdiagnosed him and gave him the wrong medication.

Alexander Hortatsos filed a lawsuit June 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against and Meridian Psychiatric Partners LLC and Dr. Robert M. Sholtes, individually and as an employee of the practice, alleging negligence.

According to the suit, Hortatsos was a patient of the defendants from Dec. 21, 2011 until July 12, 2012. He claims the defendants misdiagnosed him with Bipolar II Disorder instead of Bipolar I Disorder, resulting in their prescription of the wrong medication.

Hortatsos alleges the defendants prescribed him lithium and failed to monitor his health and blood tests subsequent to starting the medication, which left him with high levels of lithium in his blood and permanent injuries and disabilities.

He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented in the case by James A. Karamanis and Shane M. Bradwell of Barney & Karamanis LLP in Chicago.
