A Cook County woman is suing over claims she was injured after getting off a train and slipping on a flooded walkway on 147th Street in Harvey.
Althea Williams filed a lawsuit June 12 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Harvey and Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., doing business as Metra, alleging premises liability.
According to the complaint, Williams got off a Metra train at the 147th Street station on July 8, and used the walkway under the viaduct on 147th Street, which she claims is the only means of walking to the Metra parking lot.
Williams alleges the walkway was flooded and she sustained injuries after slipped on water and sewage. She accuses the defendants of failing to maintain the area around the Metra station.
Williams is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits, plus costs, and is being represented by David A. Statham and Stephanie L. Hovanec of Newman, Boyer & Statham Ltd. in Chicago.
