A Chicago restaurant is facing a lawsuit over claims a woman suffered a brain injury from an allergic reaction she had to an egg roll.

Huong Bui, as plenary guardian on behalf of the Estate of Christina Bui, and Jan Kretzschmar filed a lawsuit June 13 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Wei Jian Lin.

According to the suit, Christina Bui and her husband, Kretzschmar, bought take-out from the defendant's restaurant, China Kitchen on North Cumberland Avenue in Chicago, on June 14, 2012.

The couple claims they took the Chinese food back to Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Suites Hotel on West Bryn Mawr Avenue, where Christina Bui experienced an allergic reaction after taking a bite of an egg roll.

The suit states Christina Bui was hospitalized and suffered an anoxic brain injury as a result of the unexpected allergic reaction. The couple accuses the defendant of unnecessarily and improperly using peanut butter in its egg rolls and failing to inform customers.

The plaintiffs are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented in the case by attorneys Brian H. Eldridge and Jill M. Felkins of Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney Ltd. in Chicago.
