A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago hospital, claiming she contracted an infection during a breast reduction surgery.

Porcha James filed a lawsuit July 1 in the Cook County Circuit Court against The University of Chicago Medical Center, doing business as University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System, The University of Chicago Hospitals and The University of Chicago Medicine, alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, James underwent a breast reduction surgery at UIC's medical center on July 5, 2012, at which time she developed an abscess that required further treatment from doctors and a trip to the emergency room on July 24 and July 25, 2012.

She accuses the defendant of not using a sterile surgical environment and failing to timely diagnose and treat her infection.

James is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney David H. Brinton of Law Offices of David H. Brinton LLC in Chicago.
