According to the complaint, James underwent a breast reduction surgery at UIC's medical center on July 5, 2012, at which time she developed an abscess that required further treatment from doctors and a trip to the emergency room on July 24 and July 25, 2012.

She accuses the defendant of not using a sterile surgical environment and failing to timely diagnose and treat her infection.

James is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney David H. Brinton of Law Offices of David H. Brinton LLC in Chicago.
