A Cook County couple is suing over claims negligent fertility treatment led to the birth of quadruplets.

Tallory and Jason Broderick, individually and as parents of their four children, filed a lawsuit July 8 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Marek W. Piekos and Reproductive Health Specialists Ltd., alleging medical negligence and infliction of emotional distress.

According to the complaint, Piekos, a doctor with Reproductive Health Specialists, administered a fertility drug to Tallory on Jan. 27, 2013 and later diagnosed and treated her for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

The couple claims Tallory went to two different emergency rooms in February 2013 for the removal of fluid from her abdomen, and was informed in March that she was carrying four fetuses. She was admitted to Loyola Medical Center on June 27, 2013, where she remained until she gave birth on July 26, 2013, the suit states.

The Brodericks accuse Piekos of administering Tallory the fertility drug at too high of a dose and failed to adequately assess her risk for developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

The suit alleges the couple has and will continue to incur expenses in raising the quadruplets.  The Brodericks are seeking damages and are being represented by attorney Francis P. Morrissey of Burke Wise Morrissey & Kaveny in Chicago.
