Starbucks

A suit has been filed against Starbucks after a customer allegedly slipped and fell at its Elk Grove coffee shop.

Paula E. Baisa filed suit July 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Starbucks Corp.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 14, 2013, the plaintiff was a customer at the defendant's coffee shop at 934 Busse Highway, Elk Grove Village, when she slipped and fell on water or other liquid on the floor.

As a result of the fall, Baisa claims she suffered bruises and injuries to her bones, tissues, muscles and ligaments. She accuses the defendant of failing to mark or otherwise highlight the dangerous area, allowing the floor to be in a dangerous condition, creating an unsafe condition and failing to post warnings regarding the dangerous condition.

Baisa is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs, and is represented by Park Ridge attorney Edward M. Duthaler.
