Pedestrian sues city, claims police car hit him

A man is suing the city, claiming he was injured when a police car hit him.

Dereks Norman filed suit July 21 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago. It names the Chicago Transit Authority as a respondent in discovery.

According to the complaint, Norman was a pedestrian walking on 63rd Street at its intersection with Ashland Avenue on July 6, when a vehicle owned by the city and operated by a Chicago Police Department officer struck him.

Norman claims he sustained injuries in the incident and accuses the city of negligence and willful and wanton conduct.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Larry R. Rogers Jr. in Chicago.
