Franciscan St. James Health hit with suit over visitor's trip on sprinkler

A woman is suing over claims she was injured when she tripped on a sprinkler near a sidewalk outside a hospital in Olympia Fields.

Lisa Ruffin filed a premises liability lawsuit Aug. 13 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Franciscan Alliance Inc., doing business as Franciscan St. James Health-Olympia Fields.

According to the complaint, Ruffin was walking on a sidewalk at St. James Hospital, where her mother was a patient, on Aug. 13, 2012, when she tripped on a sprinkler and sustained injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence in failing to maintain the sidewalk or warn visitors of the danger posed by the sprinkler.

Ruffin is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorneys Ashley Swartz, Theodore Woerthwein and Matthew Shroeder of Woerthwein & Miller in Chicago.
