A Cook County man is suing over claims he was wrongfully terminated and his union failed to represent him.

Dekeitivan Hobbs filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Sloan Valve Company and the United Steelworkers of America Local 7999.

According to the complaint, Hobbs' employment with Sloan Valve Co. in Franklin Park was terminated without justification on Oct. 10, 2013, and the steelworkers union failed to invoke the arbitration procedure on his behalf, concealing that failure until Feb. 27.

He accuses the union of breaching its duty to provide fair representation, and Sloan Valve Company of breaching their collective bargaining agreement.

Hobbs is seeking more than $500,000 in damages and an order that his former employer must arbitrate his termination. He is being represented by attorney Dan Walker Jr. of Cesario & Walker in Hinsdale.

The case number is Cook County Circuit Court case 2014L008631.
