A man is suing over claims his mesothelioma was caused by asbestos he was exposed to more than four decades ago as a student, office worker, systems analyst and programmer.

Mark Eilian and his wife, Yocheved, filed a lawsuit Sept. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Mack Trucks Inc., Pfizer Inc., Pharmacia Corp., Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and dozens of other companies.

According to the complaint, Eilian was exposed to asbestos through products manufactured, sold, distributed, marketed and installed by the defendant companies through occupational and non-occupational projects he did between 1966 and 1979.

He was diagnosed with mesothelioma on July 23, the suit states.

The defendant companies are accused of failing to warn the public of the dangers of asbestos exposure or develop products without asbestos. The suit also includes counts for premises liability and conspiracy against some of the defendants.

The Eilians are represented by attorney Lawrence R. Weisler of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
