Patient alleges doctors' failure to follow up on abnormal bone scan let disease spread

Rosenblaum

A woman is suing over claims her doctors failed to follow up on abnormal results of a bone scan, allowing the disease to spread.

Mary Colletti filed suit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Loyola University Physician Foundation, Trinity Health Corp., formerly known as Loyola University Medical Center, and Drs. Milton Legrand and Shelly Lo.

According to the complaint, Colletti was treated for breast cancer before becoming a patient of the defendant doctors in 2008. On May 23, 2008, the suit states, she underwent a bone scan that returned abnormal results.

Colletti claims Legrand and Lo failed to follow up with tests or advise her on the results of the scan and on July 13, 2013, was diagnosed with metastatic disease that had spread to her bones. She accuses the defendants of being negligent.

She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by attorney Richard J. Rosenblum of Rubin, Machado & Rosenblum in Chicago.
