Dozens of companies face asbestos claim over man's mesothelioma

Adair 150x150

A former mechanic is suing over claims his mesothelioma was caused by long-term exposure to asbestos-containing products.

Frederick E. Rayn filed a complaint Nov. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Co., H.B. Fuller Co., Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Co., and dozens of other companies.

According to the complaint, Rayn was employed in various capacities, including boilermaker, auto mechanic, and maintenance mechanic from 1960 to 199, during which time he asserts he was exposed to asbestos in the defendants' products.

Because of this exposure, Rayn says he developed mesothelioma, a disease he was diagnosed with on Sept. 8, 2014. He accuses the defendant companies were or should have been aware of the potential risks of long-term asbestos exposure and should have made efforts to minimize those risks.

Rayn is seeking damages, plus court costs, and is represented by Matthew J. Adair of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
