A Cook County hospital is facing a lawsuit over claims a patient died shortly after being treated with a cream that included an ingredient she was allergic to.
Lachanda Finley, as special administrator of the Estate of Lula Finley, filed a wrongful death lawsuit Nov. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Trinity Hospital.
According to the complaint, Lula Finley was a patient at Advocate Trinity Hospital for treatment of a heel ulcer from June 25 until July 6, 2007, during which time she was treated with silvadene cream even though it is sulfa-based and she had a sulfa allergy.
Lachanda Finley claims Lula died in August 2007 from complications stemming from her allergic reaction to the cream and accuses the defendant of being negligent in its medical care by treating her with a cream including an ingredient she was allergic to.
She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by Edward G. Proctor Jr. of Munday & Nathan in Chicago.
