Suit: Unleased dog attacked man getting off bus

A man is suing the owner of a dog he claims attacked him getting off a city bus.

John L. Spencer filed a complaint Nov. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Cindy Dabner, alleging negligence and violations of the Illinois Animal Control Act.

According to the complaint, Spencer was exiting a bus at 69th Street and South Shore Drive on the morning of March 1, when he was attacked by the defendant's pit bull, causing injuries. Spencer says the alleged attack was unprovoked and that the dog was not on a leash or restrained in any way.

Spencer is seeking damages and is represented by attorney Leonard D. Litwin of Hodes, Greenstein & Litwin in Chicago.
