A Cook County woman has filed a lawsuit over claims she slipped and fell in an area park district as a result of poor lighting and ice.

Lakisha Simmons filed suit Dec. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Blue Island Park District and the City of Blue Island.

According to the complaint, Simmons was on park district property on Dec. 13, 2013, when she slipped and fell in an area that had ice forming under an overhang of a building. The area also was supposed to have a light, but it was out that day, the suit states.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to maintain the property, which created a dangerous condition that led to her injuries.

Simmons seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by attorney Craig Sandberg of Muslin & Sandberg in Chicago.

This is a report on a civil lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. The details in this report come from an original complaint filed by a plaintiff. Please note, a complaint represents an accusation by a private individual, not the government. It is not an indication of guilt and represents only one side of the story.
