The owner of a Chicago residential building is facing a lawsuit from a tenant who alleges she sustained injuries when the ceiling collapsed on her.

Cynthia Cannon filed suit Dec. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Chicagoland Real Estate Group LLC.

According to the complaint, Cannon lived in the defendant's building in the 8000 Block of South Carpenter Street, where she claims the bathroom ceiling collapsed on May 17.

Cannon accuses the defendant of being negligent by failing to properly repair her bathroom ceiling, which she asserts had been broken, cracked and improperly designed and secured for a long period of time.

She seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs, and is represented by Daniel M. Breen of Breen Goril Law in Chicago.
