A man hired to perform maintenance work at a Chicago home claims he was injured when a drain cleaner containing sulfuric acid sprayed in his eyes while fixing the sink.
Lavell Bolden filed a lawsuit Feb. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Phoenix Investments Co., the owner, leasor and/or manager of home in the 1100 Block of South Wenthworth Avenue, where the alleged injury occurred.
According to the complaint, Phoenix Investments had previously directed tenants and maintenance personnel to use a drain cleaner containing sulfuric acid, a hazardous chemical, in the pipes of the Wentworth property.
Bolden, however, claims it failed to tell him that when he was hired to do work at the property on Sept 16, 2013, when the drain cleaner sprayed in his eyes. He blames Phoenix Investments for his injuries, saying it failed to warn him the cleaner had been used and to use proper protective safety equipment when working on the sink.
He is seeking damages and is represented by Gerald J. Bekkerman and Jonathan D. Treshansky of Bekkerman Law Offices in Chicago.
