Man blames restaurant for employees' altercation that caused table injury

A customer of a Hillside restaurant is suing over claims he was injured when a table fell on him after two employees got into an altercation.

James Thomas filed a lawsuit March 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Brian Redmond, Priscilla Redmond and Mansfield Redmond, individually and as owners/agents of Priscilla’s Ultimate Soul Food Cafeteria and Priscilla’s Ultimate Soul Food Cafeteria Inc.

According to the complaint, Thomas was seated at the eatery at 4330 W. Roosevelt Road on March 21, 2013, when Brian Redmond became involved in a physical altercation with a co-worker, causing a table to fall on Thomas. He claims he suffered internal and external injuries, shock to his nervous system, and bruises, contusions and lacerations.

Thomas maintains the restaurant and its employees created a hazardous condition and failed to provide a safe environment, which led to his hospitalization and injuries.

He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus attorney fees and costs, and is represented by attorney J. Richard Hisaw of J. Richard Hisaw & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L002670.
