Patient alleges nursing home caused head injury

A Chicago woman has sued a health care corporation and its skilled nursing facility for an injury she allegedly suffered at the hands of a facility employee.

Ida Hill filed a recent lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court against Chevy Chase Corp., doing business as Bronzeville Park Skilled Nursing and Living Center, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on March 18, Hill was moved to Bronzeville Park Skill Nursing and Living Center at 3400 S. Indiana Ave. after abdominal surgery. A week later, while attending to Hill's roommate, an employee of the facility knocked over an intravenous pole, which struck Hill in the head, causing injury, the suit states.

"When patients are in a skilled nursing facility, they do not ordinarily sustain a closed-head injury from being struck with an intravenous pole in the absence of negligence on the part of those persons who are moving them," the suit says.

The complaint says the plaintiff sustained pain, anguish, mental suffering and the loss of normal enjoyment of life.

Hill seeks damages in excess of $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Paul Greenberg and Gavin Pearlman of Briskman, Briskman and Greenberg in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L002786.
