A Decatur investment company has sued to recover the money it allegedly lost when a shipment of copper disappeared on the way from China.

Arendovich Investments, of Decatur, filed suit filed May 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, against NNR Global Logistics USA Inc., of Itasca, and Hyper Trucking Inc., of Elk Grove Village, alleging breach of fiduciary duty and breach of contract.

According to the complaint, Arendovich promised to deliver 16 packages of copper to a third party for $135,286. The plaintiff then hired Dalian Ding Import Export Corp. in China for $98,600 to provide the copper. On March 25, 2014, the suit says, the plaintiff hired NNR to move the copper to Decatur, and an Arendovich representative then flew to China to watch the copper being loaded onto and locked into a container.

The container, according to the lawsuit, went to Canada, where NNR then shipped it to Hyper Trucking in Harvey. The container, still with its seal from China, arrived May 29, 2014, the suit says, and Hyper then delivered it to Decatur. But the seal wasn't on the container when it arrived, according to the lawsuit.

On June 11, NNR and Decatur Police Department officials were present when the container was opened. The copper, however, was missing, the lawsuit says.

Arendovich Investments seeks $135,904.56, plus accrued damages, and, citing counts against Hyper Trucking of conversion and negligence in bailment, seeks $679,523. It is represented by attorney Robert L. Caplan, of Clarendon Hills.
