Tumble on ice leads to lawsuit

Cookcountycourt

A woman is suing a Chicago health clinic, alleging injuries after slipping on ice at the facility.

Carmen Romo filed a lawsuit July 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against Fantus Health Clinic-John H. Stroger Hospital, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 2, Romo was walking down the exit ramp of the defendant's facility, at 1901 W. Harrison St., Chicago, when an "unnatural accumulation of ice" caused Romo to slip and fall to the ground. The suit says the plaintiff suffered personal and pecuniary injuries.

The lawsuit says the defendant failed to exercise proper care in its premises maintenance, remove the ice, warn visitors about the ice, barricade the area, and offer an alternative route into and out of the facility.

Romo seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney William A. Jaeger of Chicago.
