A Chicago bicyclist is suing the car driver who allegedly struck her and caused her injury.

Ashley Brayley, of Chicago, filed a lawsuit July 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Rebecca Alanis, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, at 11:50 a.m. Nov. 13, 2014, Brayley was riding a bicycle south on North Lakewood Avenue while Alanis was driving her 2006 Honda Civic south on the same road. The lawsuit states Alanis then struck Brayley, causing her to fall and suffer personal and pecuniary injuries.

The suit alleges Alanis was negligent in failing to exercise due care, keep a safe distance from a bicycle, drive carefully, exercise due care, drive at a safe speed, apply her brakes in time to reduce speed, keep her vehicle under control, keep a proper lookout, and sound her horn in warning.

Brayley seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney James P. Lynch, of Keating Law Offices in Chicago.
